After College Hall collapsed in 1918, an artillery garage stood in this spot until three alumni, upset that the garage stood at the location of their beloved College Hall, paid for the construction of a memorial structure which became known as Beaumont Tower (Kuhn 1955:13, 266 Beaumont 1928).
